Checkerboard, Montana

The ceiling in the Checkerboard Bar. Two days after the current owners opened in 1990 and
Englishman came in and left them a pound note, saying, "Here' your first English tip!" So he signed
it and they stapled it to the ceiling, starting a long tradition. I pulled one out and asked to have it
put up, signing "Kathleen Ely" and "Internet Navigating" and "10/06/01". The bartender just sat my
dollar bill on the counter and didn't staple it up. I wonder if it is just a revenue generator...and I
wonder if the bar closed down for a while and then was reopened. And if so, WHY?
